CEIP “Ramiro Soláns” is a complex public school located in a neighborhood called Oliver in the city of Zaragoza.
Back in the 1990s, the critical situation was characterized by high absenteeism and severe levels of conflict rates of 40% with rates reaching 40%, a school failure rate of 95%, and families and the school community moving in opposite directions. However, the strong conviction in social justice at the school finally reduced the inequalities and brought new opportunities. This has been the driving force for a change.
At the moment, our social transformation project “Live Your School, Dare to Change”, since 2005, has turned CEIP Ramiro Soláns into an inclusive and diverse school with more than 25 nationalities. Absenteeism rates have been reduced to 5%, conflicts to 3%, and educational success rates have risen to 75%.
Moreover, a strong educational community has been built, turning the school into a driver of social change and a space for learning to the whole community: students, families, and teachers. Also, the school opens its doors to inspire educators from Aragón, other Spanish regions, and across Europe.
For us the keys to success include: passion, commitment, a growth mindset, high expectations, an inclusive perspective, emotional education, active listening, positive language, appreciative leadership, continuous professional development, innovation, active methodologies, and transformative partnerships.
