LINEup Education
Data Explorer

Explore longitudinal datasets on
students’ learning outcomes across Europe.

Beta version | Covers 100+ datasets | 24 countries

What is it?

A map- and list-based interface to access longitudinal educational data

  • The LINEup Education Data Explorer brings together metadata on over 100 national, regional, and local datasets that track student learning outcomes over time. It focuses on Academic achievement and basic skills
  • Educational trajectories
  • Contextual and equity-relevant variables

Whether you are a researcher, policymaker, educator, or analyst, the Explorer helps you find the right data to investigate educational inequalities and long-term learning outcomes.

You can browse using the interactive map or the searchable list, and navigate throughout the available information and descriptions of the longitudinal datasets already included in the Data Explorer.

To refine your search, flexible search and filtering options allow users to:

  • Use main filters for initial exploration, such as country, education level, type of data, and frequency of collection.
  • Expand advanced filters to refine results by specific dataset features, including school grades covered, types of skills assessed, and sample characteristics.
  • Drill down using variable-level filters to identify datasets containing detailed information on students, households, teachers, and school/class context.
  • Conduct open-text searches by keyword, dataset acronym, or responsible organization.

What kind of data is included?

The Explorer focuses on datasets that allow for the tracking of student learning over time, including purely longitudinal survey data, repeated cross-sectional or pseudo longitudinal data, administrative records, and hybrid designs, the last one including any type of longitudinal design linked with administrative records.

Each dataset entry includes information on:

  • Context & Scope
  • Design & Data Type
  • Type of Measures
  • Data Linkage
  • Access Conditions

We are continuously updating the content with new entries, harmonisation tags, and user feedback.

Who is it for?

How can you use the Explorer?

  • Researchers can identify datasets for cross-country comparisons, trend analysis, or longitudinal modelling.
  • Policy analysts can detect data gaps and opportunities to inform evidence-based decision-making.
  • Educational stakeholders can explore how education systems monitor student progress and outcomes.
  • Institutions and funders can build on existing data to scale innovation and evaluate impact..

How can you contribute?

The Education Data Explorer is in beta and continuously evolving. Your feedback is essential to make it better.

 You can:

  • Suggest a new longitudinal dataset
  • Flag outdated or incorrect information
  • Recommend improvements
  • Request additional information or ask questions

Every contribution helps us build a more complete and user-friendly tool to advance educational equity through better data.
