LINEup joins INTEDU–AISSEC Workshop on Inequality and Education

On June 6th, 2025, the LINEup project was presented at the University of Modena and Reggio Emilia (Italy) during the workshop Inequalities and Education: Measurement, Evidence, and Policy, organised by the INTEDU research group and the AISSEC association.

The aim of the workshop was to bring together scholars and early-career researchers to explore the mechanisms underlying inequality and educational disparities, assess the effectiveness of related policy interventions, and discuss their broader economic and social implications.

In this context, Giulietta Zanga (University of Milan) presented the LINEup project, which shares the workshop’s focus on understanding and addressing educational inequalities across European countries. Her presentation outlined the project’s objectives and structure, with a particular focus on the mapping of longitudinal data on students’ learning outcomes at the primary and secondary levels. She explained and discussed the methodology used to analyse existing datasets, with specific emphasis on the current state of progress in Work Package 3.

The workshop provided a valuable opportunity to receive feedback from researchers across disciplines – including sociology, economics, and education studies. These multidisciplinary perspectives contribute to a more comprehensive understanding of social inequalities and help expand the set of tools and approaches available to address them, through the engagement of multiple sectors and stakeholders.

Equally important was the opportunity to meet researchers who have worked directly with some of the European datasets currently being analysed within the project. Their insights and practical advice were particularly helpful in refining the approach to dataset analysis and enhancing the project’s capacity to make effective use of existing data.
