Call for contributions: a LINEup panel on longitudinal data and educational inequalities at Scuola Democratica 2026

LINEup will host a panel titled “Tracing Inequalities to Foster Democratic Education: The Value of Longitudinal Data” within the 4th International Conference of Scuola DemocraticaLearning for Democracy / Democracy for Learning, which will take place in Rome (Italy), at Sapienza University, from 1 to 4 September 2026.

The panel aims to advance the debate on the mechanisms driving educational inequalities over time and on how evidence-informed, student-centred policies can contribute to more democratic education systems. It welcomes contributions that explore the analytical, methodological and policy potential of longitudinal data in education.

In particular, the call invites theoretical, methodological and empirical contributions that:

  • Use longitudinal data to analyse the emergence, accumulation and persistence of educational inequalities;
  • Examine the long-term effects of compensatory or equity-oriented policies and interventions;
  • Reflect on the democratic, institutional and policy implications of strengthening longitudinal evidence in education.

Participating in this panel means contributing to a growing international debate on why understanding educational inequalities requires looking beyond snapshots and averages, and towards longitudinal evidence capable of capturing students’ real trajectories and the long-term impact of policies.

The deadline for abstract submission is 28 February 2026. Abstracts must be submitted in English and should include:

  • A title (maximum 20 words)
  • Name(s), institutional affiliation(s) and email address(es) of the author(s)
  • 3–5 keywords
  • An abstract of approximately 500 words
  • A short reference list

Researchers, policymakers and practitioners are warmly invited to submit a contribution and join a dialogue on how longitudinal evidence can inform more equitable and democratic education policies.
